This Texas-based energy company is a Fortune 500 provider of electricity, natural gas, and smart home solutions with more than eight million customers across North America. The company operates one of the largest power generation portfolios in the country and serves a workforce of over 16,000 employees.

Following a major acquisition that brought two distinct organizations together under a single brand, the company faced the challenge of unifying its people operations on a platform built for scale. It turned to ServiceNow and Ondaro to make that vision real.

THE CHALLENGE

Two organizations, fragmented systems, and no shared employee experience 

 

The merger created an immediate operational problem: two separate companies, each with its own intranet, HR tools, and workforce processes, now needed to function as one.

Employees from both organizations encountered different portals, different workflows, and different ways of accessing HR support. For HR teams, managing cases across fragmented platforms meant manual effort, inconsistent processes, and limited visibility into service delivery.

The company also lacked a structured way to manage the full employee lifecycle — from recruiting to onboarding to alumni transitions — in a connected, unified system. The existing tools were not built to scale across a combined workforce, and the gaps were starting to show.

Leadership recognized that a better employee experience required more than patching individual tools. It required a platform built to handle complexity at scale and a partner who could deliver it.

THE SOLUTION

Building a unified, people-first platform on ServiceNow

The company partnered with Ondaro on a year-long, two-phase program to design and implement a modern HR service delivery platform on ServiceNow.

Phase 1 established the foundation. Ondaro implemented core HR Case Management with Agent Workspace, giving HR teams a centralized place to manage employee requests, track cases, and access relevant knowledge — replacing informal, disconnected channels with structured, consistent workflows. Misconduct and nepotism case workflows were configured with clear routing and resolution paths. Automated notifications and SLA tracking replaced manual follow-up.

Phase 2 built on that foundation and expanded the employee experience across the full lifecycle. Ondaro deployed Employee Center Pro as the new “1NRG” unified portal. This consolidated content from both legacy intranets, SharePoint, and WordPress into a single, mobile-accessible experience for all employees and contractors. Applicant Center was integrated with SuccessFactors RCM to streamline recruiting and connect hiring workflows directly to HR case management. Alumni Center replaced a legacy platform, enabling structured offboarding and alumni engagement.

Throughout both phases, Ondaro focused on user experience — ensuring the portal and workflows were intuitive, accessible, and built to serve a workforce spanning multiple brands and systems.

This engagement required more than technical execution. Merging two organizations’ HR systems and employee portals meant navigating shifting requirements, complex integrations, and a client team still finding its footing across a newly unified company.

Ondaro’s team worked closely with the company’s HR leaders, platform owners, and integration partners throughout both phases. The team facilitated design workshops, led test management, guided training, and managed a multi-track integration effort spanning SuccessFactors, SharePoint, and legacy systems.

When new requirements emerged mid-engagement, the team adapted without losing momentum. Change requests were absorbed, scope was managed transparently, and delivery stayed on track.

The result is a unified employee platform that gives a Fortune 500 energy company’s workforce a consistent, modern experience and gives HR the structure and visibility to deliver at scale.
