Now operating as an independent public company, the client continues to reinvest in its core strengths, respond quickly to industry shifts, and pursue new opportunities to advance the future of automotive seating and mobility.

THE CHALLENGE

Adoption on a deadline

For years, the company had enlisted another company for Software Asset Management (SAM). However, it had outgrown the offerings the legacy system had and needed a new solution. It identified ServiceNow’s SAM module as the best option but needed a ServiceNow partner to assist it in leveraging SAM’s full capabilities. The company’s goal was threefold: 

  • Transition off of its legacy platform and onto ServiceNow’s SAM product to manage its software landscape 
  • Provide additional value by managing SaaS entitlements 
  • Report key metrics and provide transparency to stakeholders via reporting 

On top of all that, the client identified a nonnegotiable deadline: September 30, when its legacy license would sunset. 

Having previously worked with Ondaro to implement ServiceNow’s Hardware Asset Management (HAM), the client’s choice of implementation partner was clear.

THE SOLUTION

Working together toward a successful implementation

Ondaro worked closely with the client throughout the implementation process, beginning with working sessions to discuss the following:  

  • Relationships between CMDB, HAM, and SAM  
  • Best-practice overview of the SAM lifecycle  
  • Current state of the SAM lifecycle and key players across organization  
  • Standardized SAM process that supports organizational culture and needs, leveraging product-provided SAM Pro capabilities 

These sessions contributed to building a SAM-related current environment assessment of the client’s non-prod instance and provided a read-out of findings that would impact the client’s SAM. With that understanding, Ondaro focused on the following: 

  • Platform and SAM Foundation: Enabled SAM plugins, centralized content, and established roles/permissions for the SAM team 
  • Data Quality and Governance: Implemented autonumbering for software entitlement asset tags (now read-only) and SAM normalization for consistent records 
  • Dashboards and Visibility: Built a SAM-enhanced dashboard for at-a-glance monitoring 
  • Integration and Automation: Scheduled jobs for the third-party data source integration framework and activated IntegrationHub ETL  
  • Discovery and EUC Integrations: Set up SCCM/Intune/Discovery for EUC software discovery, refined SG-SCCM to improve logged-in user details, and updated Discovery to stop autopopulating “Assigned to” on EUC devices 

Beyond this work, Ondaro ensured the client’s future success by conducting a series of SAM knowledge transfer sessions focused on preparing the client’s team to operate SAM following adoption.
